Natural gas imports grow 24% while local production slightly drops

Romania imported 24 percent more natural gas during the first eight months of the year compared to the same period of last year, while the local natural gas production was 3 percent lower during this interval, according to data from the National Statistics Institute.

Romania imported 1.2 million tonnes equivalent petrol (tep) of natural gas during this period, while the local production was of 5.65 million tep.

The National Prognosis Commission expects Romania to produce a total of 8.55 million tep of natural gas and import 1.75 million tep.  Romania's proven natural gas reserves were reaching 630 billion cubic meters at the end of 2008, some 0.3 percent of the world reserves.
