Romanian online bookstore sees increase in orders during social distancing, summer holiday periods

Online bookstore Libris.ro has seen a 27% y-o-y increase in the number of books ordered during the seven months of the year, which coincided with the social distancing requirements and the summer holidays.

Most of the books were ordered from Bucharest, Timişoara, Cluj-Napoca, Iaşi, and Braşov. The value of the average order went up 15% during this period, to reach almost RON 100 (EUR 20.6).

Among the best-selling books at Libris.ro were the titles accompanied by reviews, especially in the case of fiction, well-known foreign contemporary authors, and inspirational local stories, as was the case with Romanian endurance runner Tibi Uşeriu’s volume 27 de paşi (27 steps).

The best-sold title during May – July, and also the best-sold fiction title of 2020, is Ela E.H’s novel Iartă-mă că te-am iubit (Forgive me for having loved you).

Second on the list of the best sold titled during May-July is Michel Faber’s The Book of Strange New Things. It is followed by John Boyne’s The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, Delia Owens’ Where the Crawdads Sing, Kevin Dutton’s The Art of Manipulation, and Guzel Guzel Yakhina’s My Children. Alex Michaelides’s The Silent Patient was ranked seventh, followed by Mark Twain’s The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Janet G. Woititz’s Healthy Parenting, and Joe Dispenza’s Becoming Supernatural

The list of the bestselling titles of the year includes John Boyne’s The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas in the second place, followed by Kevin Dutton’s The Art of Manipulation, Alex Michaelides’s The Silent Patient, and Tibi Useriu’s 27 Steps. The Adventures of Tom Sawyer takes up the sixth spot, followed by Isabelle Duvernois’ Body Language, Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s Love in the Time of Cholera, Where the Crawdads Sing, and Lise Bourbeau’s Five wounds that prevent us form being ourselves.

Libris.ro was established in 2009. It is 100% Romanian owned. Since its establishment, it shipped 2.3 million orders to 1.2 million customers.
