Romania will receive EUR 118 million from the European Union for ten key transport infrastructure projects, the European Commission said in a statement.

The funding is part of a EUR 2.2 billion economic recovery initiative for all member states for 140 infrastructure projects.

The projects will be financed through the Connecting Europe Facility, EU’s grant scheme for transport infrastructure.

As such, EUR 48.4 million will go to the upgrade of the railway linking Bucharest’s North Station to the Henri Coandă Airport, the city’s main one.

Another EUR 9.4 million will go towards financing the feasibility study for the modernization project of the railway connection between Coslariu, in Alba county, to Cluj-Napoca, in western Romania.

Meanwhile, the feasibility study for the modernization of the Bucharest-Craiova railway will receive EUR 17.4 million.

Furthermore, another EUR 26.7 million will be used to finance the feasibility study concerning the upgrade of the railway connection between Apahida, a commune in Cluj county, and Suceava, in northeastern Romania.

The feasibility study for the project concerning the upgrade of the railway lines of the Bucharest Nord Station complex will also receive EUR 4.3 million.

For the remaining projects, Romania will partner with other member states for "the on-board deployment of ETCS Baseline 3 for Siemens locomotives operating on the TEN-T, for the deployment of the SESAR Air Traffic Management program and the creation of a network of connected parking areas with Hungary," Seenews.com reported.
