Over 8,000 tickets for Romania’s Enescu Festival sell in less than an hour
Over 8,000 tickets for this year’s edition of the George Enescu Festival were sold in the first 45 minutes since being put up on sale, the organizers of the event announced.
With 182 tickets purchased on average per minute, the 2019 edition of the classical music festival has seen the record for the highest number of sold-out concerts in the first day of the sale, the organizers said. Tickets for 18 concerts in the Recitals and Chamber Music concert series, at the Romanian Athenaeum, and 8 concerts in the Great Orchestras of the World series, at Sala Palatului, are sold out.
The tickets for this year’s edition of the event went on sale on March 6, at 12:00 pm.
The tickets for the concert opening the festival, to be delivered by the Berlin Philharmonic, sold within minutes. Similarly, the concerts of the Monte Carlo Orchestra, with violinist and conductor Maxim Vengerov, and that with bass-baritone Sir Bryn Terfel as soloist and that of Mahler Chamber Orchestra with pianist Mitsuko Uchida also sold out fast.
Within the following 30 minutes, the concerts of London Symphony Orchestra, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Staatskapelle Dresden, Lille Orchestra, Basel Orchestra, Camerata Salzburg, and Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra with Elisabeth Leonskaja sold out, according to information provided by ticket retailer Eventim.
Overall, 8,197 tickets were sold within the first 45 minutes of going on sale. At the same time, other names that attracted the buyers’ interest in the first hour were that of violinist Julia Fischer, sopranos Diana Damrau and Joyce DiDonato, and tenor Rolando Villazón.
By 19:00 on March 6, 11,431 tickets were sold. The numbers represent tickets sold and paid for. The tickets that were reserved but are not paid within the set time frame will be put up for sale again.
Last year, 1,870 passes were sold at the passes’ lottery. A total of 20% of the available tickets were put up for sale as part of tourism agencies’ packages, and 10% were allotted for artists, protocol, sponsors and partners.
The sale of the tickets is ongoing, with tickets still available at the concerts of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Orchestra and Choir, the Evgeny Svetlanov State Orchestra, the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra or the Grand Chapelle Madrid, among others.
The 2019 George Enescu Festival takes place between August 31 and September 22.
