EBRD sells stake in local energy supplier E.ON Romania

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has sold its stake of 9.82% in the Romanian electricity and natural gas supplier and distributor E.ON Romania.

THE EBRD sold its shares to the company’s majority stakeholder German group E.ON Beteiligungen Gmbh, according to data from Romania’s Official Gazette cited by local Economica.net. The deal’s value hasn’t been made public.

The financial institution had bought its shares in the energy supplier and distributor in 2007 for EUR 43 million.

Following the transfer, E.ON Beteiligungen Gmbh has a stake of 99.92% in E.ON Romania.

E.ON’s business in Romania is around EUR 1 billion. The group has 6,000 employees.
