Romania records 755 new COVID-19 cases in 24 hours

Romanian officials confirmed 755 new coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the total to 87,540 on Monday, August 31, according to the official daily report.

Most of the new cases were reported in Bucharest (102) and the counties of Vaslui (68), Iasi (61), and Prahova (56). 

Separately from the new cases, 183 patients retested positive for the COVID-19 infection.  

More than 1.8 million tests were performed in Romania so far, of which 6,943 in the last 24 hours. 

A total of 37,869 patients were declared cured so far, and 10,833 asymptomatic patients were discharged ten days after the diagnosis. 

Meanwhile, the death toll has risen to 3,621, according to the same report. A total of 43 deaths were reported between August 30 (10:00) and August 31 (10:00), in the age categories of 50-59 years (5 deaths), 60-69 years (10 deaths), and 70-79 years (18 deaths), and 80+ years (10 deaths). Forty patients had previous medical conditions.  

The number of COVID-19 patients treated in intensive care units was 506 on Monday, August 31. In total, 7,447 patients are hospitalized.   

The same report announced that 8,972 people confirmed with the new coronavirus infection are isolated at home, and 5,847 are in institutionalized isolation. Also, 32,891 people are under quarantine at home, and 71 are in institutionalized quarantine.
