Romania’s daily coronavirus cases rise above 1,300 again

Romania added 1,309 coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, pushing the total to 56,550 on Wednesday, August 5, the authorities announced in the daily report released at 13:00.

Romania last reported more than 1,300 daily coronavirus cases on July 30, when it saw 1,356 cases, a record high since the start of the pandemic.

Separate from the new cases, 922 patients who were retested still had the Covid-19 infection.

Of the total cases, 28,584 patients have recovered, while 5,370 asymptomatic patients were discharged ten days after the diagnosis.

At the same time, 41 coronavirus patients died in the past 24 hours, bringing the death toll to 2,521 since the start of the pandemic.

Of those who passed away in the last 24 hours, two were aged 40 to 49, one was aged 50 to 59, 11 were aged 60 to 69, 17 were aged 70 to 79, and ten were older than 80. Forty of them had previous medical conditions.

The number of patients admitted to intensive care units went up to 464, from 436 the day before. In total, 7,919 coronavirus patients are admitted to hospitals in the country.

At a national level, 1,295,222 tests were carried out so far, 24,108 in the last 24 hours. Of these, 8,152 were performed on request.

In Romania, 5,568 people who tested positive for the Covid-19 infection are isolating at home, while 4,736 are under institutionalized isolation. Furthermore, 18,710 people are under quarantine at home, while 174 are under institutionalized quarantine.
