25 May 2010

US car parts producer Alcoa has sold its factories in Romania to its competitors Leoni, SEWS and Kromberg&Schubert. Alcoa used to own three factories in Caransebes, Nadab (in Arad county) and Beius, where it employed 5,000 people. The US company sold last year is car cable division to US investment fund Platinum Equity. The cable division included the Romanian activities, along with activities in other 12 countries. The investment fund however decided to exit the Romanian factories.

Kromberg & Schubert took over the Nadab factory, Leoni, the one in Beius, and SEWS, the one in Caransebes. Kromberg & Schubert already had two factories in Timisoara and in Medias. Apart from the factory in Arad, Leoni is also operating two factories in Bistrita and Pitesti. SEWS(Sumitomo Electric Wiring Systems) already runs factories in Deva, Orastie and Alba Iulia.
