Al Jazeera TV network launches Balkans station

The Qatar-based news TV network Al Jazeera will start broadcasting from its new headquarters in Sarajevo this week, where it set up Al Jazeera Balkans. The TV network, with its main headquarters in Qatar, will also open offices in Zagreb, Belgrade, Skopje, Podgorica and Istanbul. Al Jazeera has invested USD 10 million in equipment for the Balkans network, that will be on air from Friday, November 11. The network will broadcast in the languages of former Yugoslavia countries.

Al Jazeera is an independent broadcaster owned by the state of Qatar through the Qatar Media Corporation and headquartered in Doha.

Launched in 1996 as an Arabic news and current affairs satellite TV channel, Al Jazeera has since expanded into a network with several outlets, including the Internet and specialty TV channels in multiple languages.
