Ice Climbing World Cup stage to be held in Busteni this week

The Busteni mountain resort will host a stage of the UIAA Ice Climbing World Cup and Championship between February 4-6. The Romanian Alpine Club organizes the event together with the Busteni Town Hall, the International Mountaineering and Climbing Federation and the Romanian Federation of Climbing and Mountaineering.

The competition will be held at the foot of the Kalinderu ski slope. Competitors will climb artificial structures covered in ice maintained by a special cooling system to keep its temperature low that was designed and built in Canada.

70 climbers from 22 countries will participate in the Romanian-stage of competition. The other stages of the competitions are held in Korea, Switzerland, Italy and Russia. The climbing structure has three arches and a cap at the top, it is made of steel, it is 20 metres high and will allow that endless spectacular and high difficulty competition routes could be constructed.
