Romanian Govt. survives no-confidence motion

24 November 2017

A no-confidence motion against the government led by Mihai Tudose failed to gather enough votes on Thursday, November 23.

The motion, which was initiated by the National Liberal Party (PNL) was only voted by 159 MPs. The minimum number of votes needed for the motion to pass was 233.

The Social Democratic Party (PSD) and the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE), which support the government, still have a comfortable majority in the Parliament.

The liberals also organized a protest around the Parliament’s Palace, which was led by PNL leader Ludovic Orban. A big protest against the Government is scheduled to take place this Sunday in Bucharest.
