George Enescu International Competition starts in Bucharest

04 September 2018

The George Enescu International Competition, which takes place between September 1 and September 23, brings together 270 young musicians from 39 countries competing in three categories: Cello, Violin and Piano. The Romanian Athenaeum will host the competition and several recitals by famous international musicians.

The Opening Gala took place on September 1 with a concert starring the winners of former editions. The Final Galas with the Orchestra are scheduled for September 11, 17 and 23. The full program of the International Competition can be found at festivalenescu.ro/program.

A novelty of this year’s edition is the educational program “Ce auzim când ascultăm muzică?” (What do we hear when we listen to music?) meant to acquaint young people with classical music through workshops, dialogues and a mobile app.

Tickets for the Opening Gala, the recitals, semifinals and the finals with the orchestra are available at eventim.ro, as well as on the website of the International Competition and Festival Enescu at festivalenescu.ro. The price of the ticket ranges between RON 45 and RON 55.

The recitals and the concerts from this year’s edition of the George Enescu International Competition will be broadcasted live on TVR, Radio Romania Muzical and online on the competition’s website.
