Foreign investment to Romania, up 14% in first five months

Foreign direct investment to Romania grew by almost 14 percent in the first five months of the year compared to the same period in 2013, to EUR 1.09 billion.

Of this sum, EUR 910 million represent direct participation of foreign investors to the capital of local companies and the remaining EUR 181 million are intra-group loans, according to data from Romania’s National Bank (BNR).

May was the best months so far this year, with inflows of EUR 306 million. The largest foreign investments in May were a EUR 90 million share capital increase at MKB Romexterra Bank, a EUR 31 million investment in OMV Petrom Global Solutions center and a EUR 23.5 million capital increase for cable producer Prysmian Slatina, according to data from Romania’s Trade Registry Office (ONRC).

Last year, foreign direct investment in Romania were up 27 percent, to EUR 2.71 billion.
