Romanian PM promises Ford to build Pitesti-Sibiu highway

Romanian Prime Minister Mihai Tudose promised to a delegation of the US car producer Ford that the Pitesti-Sibiu highway would be completed by the end of his term.

Tudose met with Ford representatives at the Government headquarters on Friday, September 8.

The Pitesti-Sibiu highway and the connection between Pitesti and Craiova are Government priorities, the Prime Minister said.

However, an official document from the Ministry of Transport consulted by Profit.ro shows that the most optimistic deadline for the completion of the project is 2022. Dacia representatives, the other large car producer in Romania, have repeatedly complained about the poor infrastructure in Romania. In March last year, thousands of employees at Dacia protested to demand better infrastructure and more favorable labor laws.

Last week, Ford presented the new EcoSport compact SUV for the European market, which will be built at the company’s manufacturing facility in Craiova, Southern Romania, following a EUR 200 million investment.
