Editors of large Romanian online newspaper resign to launch own project

14 March 2018

The editor-in-chief and the coordinating editor of Hotnews.ro, one of the largest Romanian quality news websites, have resigned and plan to launch a new online project next week.

Cristian Pantazi and Dan Tapalaga, who have worked with HotNews for 14 and 12 years, respectively, plan to support their new editorial project with donations and independent projects. Their soon to be launched media would cover hard news and investigations.

The two say the decision to leave HotNews was based on different editorial views with the newspaper owner, Ioan Margarit, local Paginademedia.ro reported.

After their departure, HotNews, which has almost 3 million unique readers a month, according to its SATI audiences, plans to introduce an editorial board but it is yet to announce who will lead it.
