29 June 2017

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has invested EUR 50 million in a EUR 550 million bond issue launched by Globalworth Real Estate Investments, a real estate investment firm focused on the Romanian market, led by the Greek investor Ioannis Papalekas.

Globalworth is the largest office owner and developer in the country, investing in a diversified portfolio of properties mainly in Romania, but also in South-Eastern Europe and Central and Eastern Europe. Its shares are listed on the Alternative Investment Market (AIM), an international market for rising companies of the London Stock Exchange.

Globalworth has issued bonds to strengthen its funding sources and to continue its expansion plans inside and outside of Romania.

This is the largest bond issuance launched by Globalworth and the first corporate Eurobond to be listed both on the Irish Stock Exchange and the Bucharest Stock Exchange. It is also the first corporate bond in Romania to reach the benchmark of at least EUR 500 million, which will facilitate the inclusion of bonds in global indices to attract more liquidity and visibility, according to EBRD.
