The local courier market will grow by up to 15% this year to over EUR 420 million because of the development of e-commerce, said the DPD general director Lucian Aldescu.

The courier market reached a value of EUR 380 million in 2016, according to the company’s estimates, reports local Profit.ro.

The market will further grow by 12-15% this year to a value of minimum EUR 425 million. Online sales will continue to play an important role in the local courier market’s development this year.

DPD Romania, one of the largest companies on the courier segment, estimates a 20% annual increase in its turnover in the first six months of this year. The company expects to deliver over five million parcels during this period.

Last year, the company’s turnover went up by some 20%, to EUR 25.5 million, as the number of parcels delivered increased by 30%. DPD plans to invest EUR 2.5 million this year, EUR 1.5 million of which in the IT and software area.
