Romania’s current account deficit widens in the first five months
Romania recorded a current account deficit of EUR 3.02 billion in the first five months of this year, up by 15.8% compared to the same period of 2017, according to Romania’s National Bank (BNR).
In May, the deficit was almost EUR 1 billion.
The deficit in the trade of goods reached EUR 4.64 billion in the first five months, up by 14.5% compared to the same period of 2017. Meanwhile, the surplus on the services side declined by 5.6% year-on-year, to EUR 3.02 billion.
The primary income deficit slightly declined, to EUR 2.36 billion, and the secondary income surplus went up to EUR 962 million.
