Construction work goes up in Romania in January

Construction work in Romania increased by 7.8% in January compared to the same month of 2017, in gross terms, according to data released by the National Statistics Institute (INS).

The growth was supported by the engineering work, which includes public infrastructure projects, which went up by almost 30% versus January 2017. Residential construction work went down by 10.2% and non-residential work declined by 0.5%.

New construction work increased by almost 10% while maintenance and current repairs went up by 7.6%. Capital repair work declined by 7.4%.

In 2017, the construction sector recorded a 5.4% drop versus 2016 due to lower engineering work.
