Construction works recorded a decrease of 7.2% in Romania in the first six months of this year compared to the same period in 2016, according to the National Statistics Institute (INS). They were affected by the decline in infrastructure works and non-residential constructions.

Meanwhile, the residential constructions recorded a significant advance.

Infrastructure works went down by 26.6% in the first six months of this year whereas the non-residential constructions saw an annual decline of 11.6%. Residential constructions increased by 72.4% between January and June compared to the same period last year, according to INS.

The maintenance and current repair works dropped by 24.6% year-on-year whereas the capital repair works decreased by 21.9% year-on-year. On the other hand, the new construction works went up by 2.2% during this period.

In June, construction works dropped by 7.4% compared to the same month last year.
