Romania's construction sector continues decline

The volume of construction work in Romania declined by 4.2% in November 2017 versus the same month of 2016, driven by non-residential constructions, which saw an 11.8% decline, and engineering work, which was down 8.3%.

The residential construction segment registered a 23.4% increase versus November 2016, the National Statistics Institute (INS) announced.

In October, the construction sector saw a 13.4% decline versus the same month of 2016.

In the first 11 months of 2017, the construction sector’s production declined by 6.9% as a gross series. Engineering work, which mainly includes infrastructure projects, declined by 23.2%, the non-residential building segment declined by 14.1% while the residential segment was up 68.7%.

Last year was the second consecutive year when the construction sector went down, after a 4.8% drop in 2016.
