Romanian Civil Servants’ Agency run by former secret service informant

14 July 2017

Romanian Prime Minister Mihai Tudose replaced Cristian Vasile Bitea, the head of the Civil Servants’ Agency, with Leonid Moisiu, the former prefect of the Olt county, reports local News.ro.

The authority in charge with the files of the former communist intelligence service (CNSAS) previously revealed that Leonid Moisiu had been recruited by the Communist secret police Securitate under the names “Stefanescu” and “Sergiu”. He supervised Romanians and foreign students at the Academy of Economic Science in Bucharest.

However, CNSAS decided that Moisiu can’t be considered a collaborator, given the types of information he provided the former secret police.

Moisiu was prefect of the Olt county between 2009 and 2019, andlater, executive director within the Slatina City Hall. He has a close political relationship with former finance minister Darius Valcov, who also served as mayor of Slatina.
