Canada lifts tourists visas for Romanians from December 1

15 November 2017

Canadian authorities intend to remove from December 1 the visa requirement for Romanian citizens traveling to Canada for stays of up to 6 months for tourist purposes, including family visits or prospecting business opportunities, according to Romania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE).

This represents the final stage of the Canada visa waver process for Romanian citizens, which started on May 1. The holders of a temporary residence visa in Canada in the last 10 years or of a valid non-immigrant US visa were able to enter Canada without a visa from that date.

Romanians who want to enter Canada after December 1 must however first obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA), according to MAE. This will be valid for 5 years.

Romanians who plan to study in Canada for more than 6 months or get a job there must obtain a study and work permit in advance.
