Bucharest’s General Council approved an investment plan worth RON 275 million (EUR 59 million) in revamping 31.6 kilometers of the city’s heat distribution system. The project will be implemented over a period of two years.

The city’s heat distribution system is old and outdated and loses some RON 280 million each year due to failures, according to the municipality.

Bucharest has some 500 kilometers of heat pipes that need to be changed. The whole project will be carried out in stages by 2030. The Japanese government is willing to finance some of the work.
