Bucharest mayor lays off city’s chief architect

Bucharest mayor Gabriela Firea laid off the city’s chief architect Adrian Bold. The decision was made at the proposal of the discipline commission, reports local Hotnews.ro.

The chief architect hadn’t met his job obligations, according to the commission. Diana Olteanu, who leads the urbanism department within the Bucharest City Hall, will take over as interim chief architect.

The interim Bucharest mayor Razvan Sava reappointed Adrian Bold in office in March 2016, after former Bucharest mayor Sorin Oprescu had laid him off in 2008. The architect challenged the decision in court and won in 2010. The city hall was obliged to reappoint him. It also had to pay him damages of almost RON 78,000 (EUR 17,000).

Oprescu laid him off arguing that Adrian Bold had contributed to the approval of a zonal urban plan through which the Spartac sports base became a building site. The plot currently hosts a shopping center.

The chief architect position is very important as the person holding this office signs the permits for real estate developments.
