The Romanian team made up of Irina Begu and Monica Niculescu advanced to the Australian Open’s women’s doubles semifinals after a 4-6, 6-2, 6-0 victory against American duo Jennifer Brady/Vania King on Tuesday.

Next, the two Romanians will play against Russians Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina.

WTA World No.1 Simona Halep has also qualified for the Australian Open quarterfinals on Monday, January 22, after a two-set victory against Japan’s Naomi Osaka. She will play against No.6 seed Karolina Pliskova in the next stage.

The Australian Open tournament will end on January 28.
