Arnie "The Governator" Schwarzenegger could come to Romania to promote green projects

31 January 2013

Hollywood star and former governor of California, USA, Arnold Schwarzenegger (in picture) could visit Romania, according to Prime Minister Victor Ponta (in picture, right). Romania's PM met Schwarzenegger today (January 31 ) at a conference on sustainable development and environmental protection in Vienna, Austria. “We talked and I believe Mr. Schwarzenegger will come to Romania,” said PM Ponta.

A visit would potentially heighten interest in energy efficiency and reports suggest that both agreed Schwarzenegger's celebrity status could help promote projects in Romania.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is the founder and chair of the R20 Vienna Conference, which brings together sub-national local government leaders, academic institutions, NGOs and private enterprise to explore ideas on implementing sustainable green developments. The scheme runs in association with the United Nations and aims “To develop and implement measurable, large-scale, low-carbon and climate resilient economic development projects at the sub-national level which can simultaneously solve the climate crisis and build a sustainable global economy.”

The conference is on today and tomorrow and as well as Ponta and “The Governator,” the Chancellor of Austria Werner Faymann and President of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso are also attending the event. At the time of writing Romania's Minister of Environment and Forests Rovana Plumb is taking part in a panel on empowering regions to implement new energy solutions at the R20 conference.
