Century-old palaces in Western Romania refurbished with EUR 7 million

Two palaces in Arad, a city in Western Romania, will be refurbished with a total of RON 33 million (EUR 7.2 million). The Arad City Hall received the funding for the project from the National Program for Local Development.

Both buildings are 130 years old and currently accommodate high schools of the city.

The building of the Elena Ghiba Birta National College is a historical monument, built starting with 1888. Funding amounting to RON 15 million (EUR 3.2 million) has been allotted to this building. The refurbishment entails works to the two parts of the building, including the education and sports area, the cafeteria, the administrative spaces, and an upgrade of the festivities hall. The project is set to last 24 months.

The building of the Economic College in the city will undergo works estimated at RON 18.4 million (EUR 4 million). The construction of the building ended in 1889. The works entail redoing the façade and revamping the interior and exterior woodwork.

The works should start in 2018.
