The world’s largest online retailer, Amazon, will expand its offices in Iasi, eastern Romania, by another 5,000 square metres by 2020, according to Ziarul Financiar daily quoting sources on the local real estate market.
Its offices in the city will thus reach 18,000 sqm. Up to 1,800 employees might be hired within the expanded facilities, up from 1,000 currently.
Most likely, the new 5,000 sqm will be located in a new building developed by local entrepreneur Iulian Dascalu. Until the new building will be ready, Amazon rented 3,000 sqm in Unique Building, which is also located in central area of Iasi.
Opened in 2005, Amazon’s Development Center in Iasi was the group’s first R&D facility in Eastern Europe. It plays a major role in the city’s burgeoning tech industry, employing skilled experts who are inventing exciting new technologies in the fields of Cloud Computing, Information Security, Machine Learning and Data Analysis.
