Romanian table tennis player wins gold at European U21 Championships

Romanian table tennis player Adina Diaconu has managed a great performance at the 2019 European Under 21 Championships in Portugal, as she won on Sunday the gold medal in the women’s singles event.

In the final, Diaconu defeated Russian Maria Malanina 4-0 (13-11, 11-6, 11-9, 11-7), according to the Romanian Table Tennis Federation.

Also in the women’s singles event, Romanian Tania Plaian was defeated in the semifinals by Adina Diaconu's opponent in the final, Maria Malanina, with the score 1-4 (9-11, 7-11, 8-11, 11-6, 5-11). Meanwhile, in men’s singles, Romania’s Rares Sipos was defeated by Greek Ioannis Sgouropoulos in the semifinals with 3-4 (11-7, 5-11, 6-11, 4-11, 15-13, 12-10, 9-11). Thus, both Tania Plaian and Rares Sipos ended the Chamiopnships with bronze medals.

Six Romanian athletes participated in the European U21 Championships, which took place in Gondomar, Portugal, between March 7 and March 10.
