Young Romanian shot dead in London during alleged robbery

Romanian Ionut Lazar, 28, was shot dead in a flat in west London, just two days after arriving in the UK, reports the British media.

The Romanian was killed when armed attackers entered the flat on Saturday morning. According to Standard.co.uk, an 18-year-old was arrested on murder charges and was being held in a London police station.

Neighbors said that the second-floor flat where the incident occurred was a known hotspot for drug dealing in the area. One of the locals, a woman, said that her daughter saw the police removing bags of cash and “white powder” from the flat while investigating the crime.

The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) confirmed the Romanian’s death and said that it has already notified his family. According to the Romanian institution, Ionut Lazar seems to have been the victim of a robbery.

The Romanian Embassy to London is monitoring the case, being ready to provide consular assistance as required.
