Young Romanian arrested for jihadist propaganda allegedly tries to convert cellmate to Islam

21 December 2016

Luigi Constantin Boicea, a Romanian teenager arrested earlier this month because he has been making jihadist propaganda, allegedly tried to convert his cellmate to Islam, reports local Mediafax, citing judicial sources.

Titi Szgarcitu, Boicea’s cellmate, asked to be moved to another cell because Luigi Constantin Boicea tried to make him convert to Islam.

In early December 2015, Boicea was detained and then placed under judicial control for making jihadist propaganda online. During the judicial control, he was not allowed to access the Internet anymore, but he has broken the obligations he had under the law, “by continuing to access sites used for propaganda and training of future combatants belonging to the terrorist organization Daesh/Islamic State, and by trying to make contact with the leaders or representatives of that terrorist organization to obtain financial and logistical support for committing an act of terrorism,” according to a statement from the Directorate for Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT).

The prosecutors also say that, starting 2015, Luigi Constantin Boicea participated in the training organized online by Daesh, training which included information on how “to assemble and use, and what are effects and safety measures needed to be taken into account during handling and using different types of destructive means, firearms, and explosive materials and devices.” The training also included psychological preparation of future combatants for acts of terrorism.

Thus, Boicea was arrested once again in early December this year.
