Who are the winners of the 2016 Bucharest International Film Festival?

Soy Nero, a drama directed by Iranian Rafi Pitts, is the big winner of this year’s Bucharest International Film Festival (BIFF), which ended on Saturday, April 23.

The film tells the story of Nero, a deported Mexican, who returns illegally to the US in search of his identity. He joins the US army as a Green card soldier, as a shortcut to obtaining American citizenship. Lost in the maze, Nero fights to get his nationality.

The movie’s screenwriters are Rafi Pitts and Romanian Razvan Radulescu. Soy Nero, which was also selected in the main competition of the 2016 Berlinale, opened this year’s BIFF. Watch the trailer below.

The Best Director award went to L’avenir, a drama film directed by Mia Hansen-Love, reports local Agerpres. Death in Sarajevo, directed by Danis Tanovic, got the Best Script award, and The Boss’s Daughter, directed by Olivier Loustau, won a special jury mention.

BIFF took place between April 18 and April 24. This year, the event's lineup included 15 movies from 10 countries such as Spain, France, US, Iran, Belgium, and Argentina.
