Vanilla Skype, the first theater play in Romania that organizes casting for spectators

24 August 2016

Vanilla Skype, a theater play written by Romanian TV producer Catalin Stefanescu, is the first show in Romania that organizes a casting for spectators.

Starring great Romanian actors such as Marcel Iures, Andi Vasluianu, Medeea Marinescu, and Marius Manole, Vanilla Skype will be staged in five big Romanian cities this fall, namely Ploiesti, Craiova, Piatra Neamt, Bacau, and Iasi. The tour will take place between September 2 and September 10.

For each of these five performances, those wishing to attend the show can sign up for a casting to be held on Skype (account Vanilla Skype Teatru). The casting will be organized by Romanian actor Marcel Iures and will include a set of basic questions designed to determine if the participants really deserve a seat in the theater hall.

Vanilla Skype is a unique theatrical event mainly because Catalin Stefanescu wrote the play especially for the actors from the cast. The play follows the stories of four patients who talk with their therapist on Skype, two workers who analyze in a humorous way the world’s “grammar,” a confused detective who looks like he came out of a 40s movie, and four actors who participate at a casting. All these characters melt their realities into a mosaic-story about the huge power of narration and the complete helplessness of the narrator.

The tour will start at the Toma Caragiu Theater in Ploiesti on September 2, and will then continue at the Marin Sorescu National Theater in Craiova on September 4, Tineretului Theater in Piatra Neamt on September 7, George Bacovia Theater in Bacau on September 8, and Vasile Alecsandri National Theater in Iasi on September 10. The tour’s program includes two representations in each of the five cities, starting at 17:00 and 20:30.

Vanilla Sky is the first theater play written by Catalin Stefanescu, who is best known as a TV producer. He is best known for his Garantat 100% (100% Guaranteed) on of the most successful local cultural shows.
