24 August 2016

The underground passage that will connect the Unirea Shopping Center in downtown Bucharest to the nearest metro station will be ready in mid-September, reports local Profit.ro.

The EUR 4 million project represents a partnership between Unirea Shopping Center and Bucharest metro operator Metrorex. Work on the new underground passage started in January 2015.

The passage also includes a 2,000-sqm commercial gallery that comprises 15-16 stores of services, accessories, dry cleaning, and pastry. The gallery will be officially opened in September.

Unirea Shopping City will be the second mall in Bucharest that is directly connected to a subway station. Sun Plaza mall is also linked to the Piata Sudului metro station through an underground passage.

Unirea Shopping Center is majority-owned by local investor Dan Adamescu, via the Nova Group. In the first six months of the year, the mall registered a turnover of RON 36.4 million (EUR 8.1 million), up 1.4% year-on-year.
