Ukraine supports NATO fleet in the Black Sea

22 April 2016

Ukraine supports the setup of a NATO fleet in the Black Sea and of a Romanian-Ukrainian-Bulgarian brigade similar to that created by Poland, Lithuania, and Ukraine, President Petro Porosenko said during an official visit to Bucharest.

“Security is very important and requires new decisions, and new approaches. We support Romania’s initiative to create a common NATO fleet in the Black Sea and are willing to join it as soon as this initiative is approved by the Alliance,” Ukraine’s President said in a press conference.

He also said that Romania and Ukraine also had a common position on eliminating the sanctions against Russia.

“The talk about eliminating the sanctions on Russia can’t take place until the aggression stops,” Porosenko said.

Porosenko visited Bucharest yesterday and met with Romania’s President Klaus Iohannis and with Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos.

Romania and Ukraine yesterday signed a bilateral agreement for cooperation in the military transport sector.
