Turkish investor brings Polish manager to run DIY retail chain in Romania

Do-it-yourself (DIY) retailer Praktiker Romania, owned by Turkish-born investor Omer Susli, has named Miroslaw Huczek as general manager starting March.

Huczek replaced French executive Isabelle Pleska who had been named as Praktiker's general manager in early 2016. German Michael Krahn had managed the company for almost seven years before Pleska.

Huczek, 43, is from Poland and has graduated from the Economy University in Cracovia. He started working in the DIY sector in 2005 and has worked as sales manager for Praktiker Poland and OBI Poland, and general manager of BauMax Bulgaria. He is fluent in Polish, German, and English.

Praktiker Romania owns a network of 27 stores in 23 cities and has some 1,500 employees. The company had a turnover of EUR 137 million and EUR 2.4 million losses in 2015, according to official data from the Finance Ministry.

Praktiker’s biggest local competitors include Romanian network Dedeman, French Leroy Merlin, and British group Kingfisher, which owns the BricoDepot network.
