Transporters in Romania plan large protest in Bucharest in mid-September

09 September 2016

Some 5,500 people and 5,000 vehicles will participate in a protest to be organized in Victoriei Square in Bucharest on September 15. The transporters in Romania took the decision to hold this protest because they are unhappy with the high tariffs of the mandatory car insurance policies RCA.

The main leaders of the transporters’ associations and Bucharest mayor Gabriela Firea signed a protocol that establishes some rules for the protest, reports local News.ro. According to this document, the rally will take place on September 15, between 09:00 and 15:00, and the number of participants will not go over 5,500.

The associations behind this protest are the National Union of Road Hauliers from Romania (UNTRR), the Confederation of Certified Operators and Transporters in Romania (COTAR), Romanian Association for International Road Transport (ARTRI), the Transport Employers Association Europe 2002 (APTE2002), the Romanian Federation of Transport Operators (FORT), and the Apulum Association for Road Transport Operators.

The transporters in Romania started a series of protests in August, as they are unhappy with the high tariffs of the RCA insurances. They’ve been protesting by running at low speeds on several roads in the country. Earlier this week, their protest on Bucharest’s ring road delayed the firefighters from intervening at a fire that broke out in southern Bucharest.
