Transport sector generates over 13% of Romania's greenhouse gas emissions

19 April 2016

In Romania, more than 13% of the greenhouse gas emissions come from the transport sector, and 96% of them are caused by road transport, said the Environment Minister Cristiana Pasca Palmer.

The Minister said that Romania was trying to introduce urban mobility plans, reports local Capital.ro. The authorities also want to stimulate the electric car sales.

The Environment Ministry has launched the program Rabla PLUS that aims to stimulate people to buy electric cars instead of classic ones. Romania has only 600 electric cars, compared to several thousands or even hundreds of thousands in other countries, said Palmer.

The authorities will also try to develop charging infrastructure for this type of cars, the minister added.
