Train driver blocks entrance to Romanian town

29 November 2016

On Tuesday morning, a train driver decided to stop the train because he was close to exceeding his driving time. He thus managed to block the entrance to Dumbraveni, a town in Sibiu county, for 40 minutes, reports local Mediafax.

According to Sibiu Police spokesperson Elena Welter, the traffic was not seriously affected because there are detours, the vehicles being diverted through other towns.

Representatives of the railway transport police said that a misunderstanding might have caused the incident. The driver stopped the train at the signal given by an operator who apparently didn’t know that the passage built over the railway in Dumbraveni train station hadn’t been completed yet.

However, the railway transport police are still investigating this incident. Meanwhile, the train was taken to the Medias train station.

Another train incident occured in a train station in Gorj county, Southwestern Romania, where two locomotives crashed on Tuesday. One of the drivers died and the other one was injured. One of the locomotives was connected to 11 freight cars and was waiting for the other locomotive to connect to the train and help it with the load. However, the second locomotive came in to fast and crashed into the stationed engine. The train and the locomotives belong to the state-owned freight carrier CFR Marfa.
