Trade deficit goes up by 75% in Romania in the first two months

The trade deficit amounted to EUR 993 million in the first two months of the year, up by EUR 428 million, or 75%, compared to the same period of 2015, according to the National Statistics Institute (INS).

The exports rose by 4.1% year-on-year reaching EUR 8.92 billion whereas the imports went up by 8.5% to EUR 9.92 billion.

Romania’s exports in the Europe Union totaled EUR 6.8 billion in the first two months of the year whereas the imports from the EU amounted to EUR 7.78 billion. The exports outside the EU reached EUR 2.1 billion whereas the imports were also close to EUR 2.1 billion.

In February, Romania’s exports rose by 9.5% compared to the same month of 2015, to EUR 4.81 billion, while the imports went up by 13.4%, reaching EUR 5.42 billion. The deficit was thus EUR 611 million.
