Most popular politicians in Romania by number of Facebook fans

President Klaus Iohannis is still the most popular Romanian politician on Facebook, according to data from Facebrands.ro, the service that monitors the Facebook pages in Romania.

Iohannis has little over 1.7 million Facebook fans. The number is slightly lower than the one registered in July but double compared to the one reported by former Prime Minister Victor Ponta, who ranks second with 812,628 fans, reports local News.ro.

Bucharest’s new mayor Gabriela Firea comes next with 431,611 fans, followed by former President Traian Basescu – 379,917, and former tourism minister Elena Udrea – 352,405. Almost 308,000 people like the EPP Group in the European Parliament page, and 245,452 like the Facebook page of the National Liberal Party (PNL).

Elena Basescu, the daughter of former President Basescu, comes next in the political top with 208,745 fans, followed by Cezar Maroti, vice president of the Green Movement, who has 196,139 Facebook fans. Bogdan Diaconu, chairman of the United Romania Party, is at number 10 with 194,975 likes.

However, Romania’s current Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos ranks only 17th in the top, with 120,320 fans. Senate President Calin Popescu-Tariceanu has little over 41,500 likes, ranking 40th.

In the overall ranking of Facebook pages in Romania, President Johannis ranked 35th of 36,788 pages monitored, and Victor Ponta was number 113.
