Thousands rally in Bucharest to commemorate deadly club victims

02 November 2015

About 8,000 people rallied on Sunday in downtown Bucharest to commemorate the 30 people who died following the fire in club Colectiv on Friday night.

They started from the University Square and walked in silence to the location of the tragedy, a few kilometers away, where they joined 2,000 other people who were already there. The people brought flowers and lit candles for the deceased.

Among the people who attended the commemoration events were foreign ambassadors and politicians.

Hundreds of people in Iasi, Cluj-Napoca, and other big cities in Romania also gathered to commemorate the victims.

The Government decided on Saturday to hold three days of national mourning and most of the local TV stations have removed entertainment programs from their schedules. Several local artists have cancelled their concerts.
