System of a Down lead vocalist congratulates Romanian protesters

Armenian artist Serj Tankian, the lead vocalist of famous rock band System of Down, posted a message on Facebook, in which he congratulates the protesters in Romania.

Posting a link to an Al Jazeera story on the Romanian Government’s decision to withdraw the emergency ordinance that was changing the Penal Code following massive protests in the country, Serj Tankian wrote on his Facebook page: “This is how battles are won against unjust laws. Congratulations to the people of Romania.”

The post gathered over 20,000 likes and was shared over 4,300 times.

The protests started in Romania last week, on Tuesday evening, right after the Government adopted the emergency ordinance that was changing some important provisions of the Penal Code. The people have been taking to the streets every day since then, with more than half million Romanians protesting on Sunday evening, although the Government decided to withdraw the ordinance.
