Swedish fantasy-drama film The Giant, directed by Johannes Nyholm, is the big winner of the 2016 edition of Dracula Film Festival in Romania.

The movie got the Dracula 2016 Trophy and a prize of EUR 1,000. According to the jury, the film is a “touching story about people that modern society tends to hide.”

The Giant tells the story of Rikard, an autistic man with a severe deformity, who is trying to find the way to his long lost mother with the help of a giant. See trailer below.

The festival’s Little Dracula Trophy for Best International Short Film went to We Together, directed by Henry Kaplan. Meanwhile, the Vladutz Trophy for best Romanian Short Film was given to director Radu Potcoava for Ma cheama Costin (My name is Costin).

Also, a special mention went to Romanian animation Mama, tata, trebuie sa va spun ceva (Mom, dad, there's something I must tell you), directed by Paul Muresan.

A short film shot with a mobile phone won the first edition of the festival’s Dracula Digital section. The film, called Nesimtito, was directed by Catalin Moise and Flavia Negoescu. The two directors received a cash prize of EUR 500.

This year’s edition of Dracula Film Festival was organized in Brasov between October 12 and October 16. Its program included more than 60 horror and fantasy films, workshops, conferences, concerts, and book launches.
