Support scheme for energy consumers in Romania who turn producers

30 September 2016

Romania’s Regulatory Authority for Energy and the Energy Ministry analyze introducing a support scheme for consumers who want to produce their own electricity and deliver the surplus to the national grid, according to ANRE vicepresident Emil Calota.

This scheme will be available for renewable energy production capacities with an installed capacity of up to 500 kW.

“There are many Romanians who want to become prosumers (producers and consumers) and make their own installation to produce electricity. We have made it a priority to talk to the grid operators and the business environment about this,” Calota said, reports local Economice.net.

He added that the costs for such systems have dropped in recent years.

According to Calota, the national energetic system must be redesigned and adapted to the new technological context.

“The current system remains heavy, centralized, with oversized capacities on all levels: production, transport, distribution,” he said.

In recent years, households have become the biggest consumers, surpassing industry.
