Update: Subscriptions for 2017 George Enescu Festival in Romania, now on sale

The 2017 edition of George Enescu International Festival will take place in Bucharest and seven other cities between September 2 and September 24, with more than 3,000 Romanian and foreign artists in the program.

Four categories of subscriptions are already on sale and can be purchased online from Eventim.ro, but also from Germanos, Orange, and Vodafone stores, Diverta, Humanitas, and Carturesti bookshops, Carrefour hypermarkets, OMV gas stations, and Eventim offices. Their prices vary between RON 200 (some EUR 45) and RON 2,800 (EUR 620).

Update: The subscriptions in the Recitals and Chamber Concerts category were sold in the first minute after being put up for sale on Monday morning, and the subscriptions in the Great Orchestras category were sold out in ten minutes. Those interested can still find subscriptions in the Midnight Concerts and the 21st Century Music categories.

The individual tickets will be put up for sale on February 16, for prices between RON 30 (EUR 6.6) and RON 180 (EUR 40).

Zubin Mehta, one of the world’s most famous conductors, will be the honorary chairman of the 2017 George Enescu Festival in Romania, while Russian conductor Vladimir Jurowski will be the artistic director. The program will include classical music superstars, who will perform in Romania for the first time, 37 works signed George Enescu, and contemporary music.

The London Philharmonic Orchestra, under the baton of Vladimir Jurowski, will open the festival with the opera “Oedipus” by George Enescu.

The program also includes famous artists Lang Lang, Jonas Kaufmann, Philippe Jaroussky, Magdalena Kožená, Daniil Trifonov, Riccardo Chailly, Thomas Hampson, Dmitri Hvorostovsky, Olga Peretyatko, Khatia Buniatishvili, Tine Thing Helseth, Andrei Ioniță, and Anoushka Shankar, who will perform in Romania for the first time next year. Top orchestras such as Orchestra Scala di Milano, Orchestra Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Royal Concertgebouw Amsterdam, and Münchner Philharmoniker will also go on stage during the festival.

Also for the first time, famous contemporary composers such as Sir James MacMillan, Rodion Shchedrin, Jörg Widmann, Iain Bell Nimrod Borenstein, Sven Helbig, Zygmund Krauze, Rolf Martinsson, Magnus Lindberg, Helmut Lachenmann, Vladimir Cosma, and Thomas Larcher will come to Bucharest in September 2017, for the George Enescu Festival.

A total of 12 concerts will be organised in the country during the festival, in cities such as Iasi, Brasov, Cluj, Timisoara, Bacau, Ploiesti, and Sibiu.
