Study: 8 in 10 (online) Romanians want to buy something on Black Friday

16 November 2016

Some 80% of the 2,400 respondents to an online survey carried out in Romania said they plan to buy something on Black Friday. They are interested in the stores that offer discounts and are actively monitoring the prices of the products they want. The study was carried online by iVox for local online retailer evoMag.

More than a quarter (26%) of respondents to the iVox online survey said that they would allocate a budget of over RON 1,000 (EUR 220) for this year’s Black Friday, 35% plan to spend no more than RON 500 (EUR 110), and 20% would spend between RON 500 and RON 1,000.

“We see that the Romanians are starting to buy more expensive products, due to higher living standards and purchasing power. And Black Friday makes no exception, especially because on this occasion they may purchase the products they want at the lowest prices,” said Mihai Patrascu, CEO evoMag.

In terms of gender, men plan to spend more than women, the study also shows. Some 30% of men intend to buy products worth at least RON 1,000, while only 20% of women plan to do the same. Most women, namely 45%, would want to spend less than RON 500.

The study was conducted on October 14-15, on a sample of more than 2,400 people.

The Black Friday shopping event will take place this Friday in Romania, with most stores offering big discounts on this day. evoMag will offer discounts for three days this year, between November 18 and November 20. Its offer also includes cars, such as Ford, Skoda, and Seat.

evoMag.ro is one of the top online retailers in Romania. In 2015, the company that owns the evoMag brand had sales of EUR 17.3 million. Its top competitors include eMAG, cel.ro, and elefant.ro.

The Black Friday discount shopping event was brought to Romania by eMAG, the biggest local online retailer. In the past five years, this has grown into the biggest shopping event of the year in Romania. Some 11.8 million Romanians aged 18 to 65 have heard of Black Friday and some 7 million intend to buy something on Black Friday this year, according to a Daedalus Millward Brown study presented by eMAG.
