Small squares in Curtea de Arges, Bucharest could be named after Queen Anne

03 August 2016

A small square recently inaugurated in Curtea de Arges, the Romanian city where Queen Anne will be buried next week, is to be named after the late Queen.

The proposal came from the city’s mayor, and a decision is this sense is to be adopted at the end of August, during the Local Council’s meeting, reports local Mediafax.

Moreover, Curtea de Arges will mark three days of mourning, namely August 13 – when Queen Anne’s funeral will take place, August 14, and August 15. The celebrations for the City Days have also been postponed.

Meanwhile, National Liberal Party (PNL) leader Alina Gorghiu also said that a small square or a boulevard in Bucharest should be named after Queen Anne.

“Her Majesty Queen Anne has a special place in the hearts of Romanians. Many people honor her memory with the nicest words. I believe that the Bucharest municipality would also bring a nice tribute if one of the boulevards or small squares in the capital would bear the name of Her Majesty. I hope the capital's mayor will be interested in the idea,” Gorghiu wrote on her Facebook page.

Romania’s former Queen Anne died on August 1, aged 92. Her body will be brought to Romania on Tuesday, August 9, while the funeral will take place on August 13, the Royal House has announced. The official program of the funerals here.
