Romanian gas producer Romgaz increases storage capacity after EUR 54 mln investment

21 July 2016

Romanian state-owned company Romgaz, the country’s biggest natural gas producer, has completed a EUR 54 million investment in a gas compression station in Sarmasel, Mures county.

The project began three years ago and was carried out by local companies Condmag Brasov and Inspet Ploiesti.

The new gas compression station helps Romgaz increase its storage capacity of the deposit in Sarmasel by almost 20%.

Storage facilities are a sort of insurance policy, especially in winter. They protect the local market from possible supply disruptions in times of consumption growth.

Moreover, the gases stored in summer are usually purchased at a lower price. Selling them during winter can bring an additional benefit to the storage’s owner.
